Spring has sprung!

We are slowly coming out of hibernation around here, it is slowly warming up but today is a very cold and wet day.

I have had some lovely spring surprises though...

I had been watching and waiting for these irises and orange tulips to bloom and it has been worth the wait. They have put a smile on my face. Unfortunately the chooks stepped on two tulips but the other day I discovered a triple bulb flowering which was a surprise so I hadn't completely lost all my flowers.

Bulbs don't last forever but they are definitely worth growing to have some colour after the winter. I just love watching them slowly open, deciding if they're brave enough to open up to the world.

We are slowly getting our vegetable garden in order for summer growing too. My husband and I have been working in the garden together, to get the seeds and seedlings going.

Here we have our greenhouse and have planted tomatoes, cucumbers, dwarf beans, lettuces and radishes. There is still some silverbeet growing from winter and there is also some space left to plant a few more things.

In this garden I planted spring onions, beetroot and courgettes amongst some other leftover spinach and parsley which is still going really well.
We still need to plant potatoes and carrots.

This is a new vegetable garden made from the old sandpit that my husband built many years ago for our boys but sadly they are too old to play in it now so we converted it into another garden.
We have so far planted spinach or silverbeet variety, lettuces and herbs.

Once the weather warms up more we can continue planting a few more things. The strawberry patch is currently undergoing a clean out. It needs a good weed, some strawberry plant compost and some new plants as we have had the old strawberry plants for a few years now and they are not producing as much.

I love homegrown strawberries and hardly ever buy any.

We would love to have more berries growing on our property. We have had raspberry bushes but they are not producing anymore so we might put some new ones in a new spot plus we have red current bushes which produce some but not heaps.

Well this is just a super short post but after not being here for awhile I wanted to get something out to update you all on what we are doing on our little backyard farm. Our hens are doing well and slowly producing eggs but not back to four a day yet but I am grateful for what we receive every morning.

I will be back again soon, thanks for visiting.

Have a blessed week,

Love Fiona
