I recently decided I wanted to preserve some more apples as I enjoy having them on hand for a quick apple crumble or cooked apple on our muesli or porridge for breakfast.
I purchased 4 kilos from our organic vegetable box delivery, lovely green cooking apples that are grown locally. I thought I would preserve them that weekend but it didn't happen and then the following delivery came and I had forgotten to change my order back to my regular one and so another 4 kilos of apples arrived! I laughed and thought oh well, maybe that's meant to be.
So, this last weekend I finally kicked myself into action and spent a lovely Sunday afternoon cooking and preserving.
There was a small amount left which we have enjoyed with breakfast and the preserved apples are yummy. Just the right amount of sweetness.
Once you know what you're doing, it doesn't take too long to preserve small batches like this and it is always nice to have some home preserves put away. You never know if you will have unexpected guests arrive, so it can be easy to whip up a quick apple crumble dessert if you have some preserved fruit put aside.
The longest time was the peeling and dicing. The cooking didn't take too long and the bottling part took only about 15 minutes.
Thanks for visiting and have a great weekend.
Blessings, Fiona
