Snippets of our day

Celebrating a new normal

Welcome.
Finally today we were able to do an activity that makes us feel that life is getting back to normal after lockdown.
One of my 15 year old twin sons loves horses and he usually attends a nearby pony club every week. He has really missed it over the last couple of months and was very excited to go back today. He has been very patient in the waiting and today is rewarded.

Firstly, he got creative in the kitchen and all for the horses...

These treats are a cross between an Anzac biscuit and a muesli bar with carrots,
apple, oats and molasses.

It was so refreshing to be out somewhere else and to see the horses. I didn't
want to leave.

The drive out to the riding school was so beautiful, the leaves on the trees have changed colour since we were last out that way. I find autumn so calming and it has a beauty all of its own.

Yesterday's baking disappeared pretty quickly and everyone is just so incredibly hungry all the time so I baked a treat for afternoon tea.

A classic kiwi banana cake with apricot jam and cream in the centre with lemon
zest icing.
It is so yummy that we are finishing the rest off for supper.

A favourite baking recipe book of mine that is well
loved.

Of course all this has been taking place throughout our homeschool day. As my sons need a break they often run out to the chicken coop to check on the girls and take any vegetable scraps that there may be to give them a treat. It's a great way for them to get a few minutes of fresh air in between subjects that they are working on.

Our first wee Dachshund boy, Rex. Looking up at me all innocently after barking
at the hens.

Our second wee Dachshund boy, Timmy, always by my side.

A fun chemistry science experiment, hokey pokey. It took two attempts
and it finally worked out. The first lot was too bitter so the next time we
slowed the process down and it worked perfectly.

I decided to add some melted milk chocolate to even out the sweetness of the
hokey pokey, it worked like a treat!

Homemade crunchy bars with ice cream. Very decadent but delicious.

We actually didn't make the hokey pokey today but I thought I would show you what you can do with it. It would make a fun homemade gift for a birthday or Christmas.

We don't normally eat like this every day but as we're coming out of lockdown and we still haven't ventured out very much, a few treats and a little fun is in order.

I hope you have a blessed week,
Fiona
